I would use this website in a introduction activity to integers. After perfoming a pre-assessment on integers I would create 4 groups made up of all the students and designate roles to each student. The interesting integers website contains instructions for each group to investigate integers by completing four activities:
Activity One: Finding out about negative numbers in the real world.
Activity One: Finding out about negative numbers in the real world.
Activity Two: How can you show that the rules for adding and subtracting integers are true?
Activity Three: Sharing what you have learned
Activity Three: Sharing what you have learned
Activity Four: Putting what you have learned to work.
Each Activity will take one day and could be used as a set.
The activities help students see the real-life applications of integers. The website also includes rubrics to assess each activity.
Website: Interesting Integers
I believe this website would help students conjecture real life applications of integers. This will also help with students attitudes and beliefs towards matheatics because they see direct use for it and will therefore be engaged to learn about integers.
